What are you working for

As I sit on my bed at 2:07 in the morning, after just getting home from a very long day, I started to really think about why we work so hard? What drives us among the millions of individuals that we cross paths with, to get up everyday, and to rest our heads knowing that tomorrow we may just run into the same uncertainties. Everyday I take moments to really look around and see people as apposed to just looking at them. The people that live for what others want them to be. The people that live for the socially constructed benefits, that we so graciously waste our hard earned money on. The people whose primary moral lies in their dollar. The people in search of their dreams. Have you ever really stopped and asked yourself what your working for? If you ask the young girl next door she'll giggle shyly. If you ask the newly arrived immigrant family down the street, they'll say For the rights to use their Masters degree from home, outside of a taxi cab. If you ask one of my brothers they'll say to be able to walk home, without being harassed by the forces of our legal system. If you ask me, I say to chase that dream, I drew in my head when I was 14. That dream that I recreate every time I absorb inspiration. I'm so tired of hearing about the countless people who have put aside their dream, to work an office job for money. Not necessarily because they want to, but because the uncertainties of life became to expensive. Sometimes I wonder what will happen to this world when money loses it's value. When we acknowledge that we've begun to let a piece of paper, substitute for what we could never truly face about ourselves. Will you be able to say, that when your time comes you've done all that you wanted? What would you take, a dollar? or a dream?
